Windknots sure-fire cold remedies

Yes, I've got a miserable winter cold...as compared to a miserable summer cold. I certainly hope that this one isn't a sign of what's in store as this poor body gets older. I don't recall ever having a cold that laid me low for a week. This cold really took it out of me. I've slept hours on end, I'm on #5 of the John Wayne movie festival and I've tied one Hare's Ear.

Anyway, I'm starting to feel somewhat human again or at least I can drag myself out of bed and prop myself up in front of the computer.

I'm sure everyone here has said at one time or another, we can put a man on the moon, why can't we cure the common cold? Well, leave it to Windknots to come up with some sure-fire cold remedies for everyone.

1. Everyone has heard the saying, Starve a cold and feed a fever...or is it feed a cold and starve a fever? Well, forget it. Neither one makes any sense.

2. Doctors say drink plenty of fluids and I concur. They also say lots of warm liquids to ease a sore scratchy throat. I recommend a shot (or so) of good Kentucky sipping whiskey and then bury yourself under 3 feet of blankets. You'll sweat that cold out by the time you regain consciousness.

3. Take a hot shower. Preferably with someone warm and cuddly. (Discretion advised)

4. Fix a nice hot cup of green tea, throw it out and see #2.

5. I do sometimes drink alcohol or tea mixed with honey. I don't know if this works or not, but I've never seen a sick bee.

6. My mom said homemade chicken soup was the answer for a cold or most any ailment except stupidity. Go get some.

7. I highly recommend a nasal wash. A mixture of warm water and salt. Don't swallow.

Okay enough. I'm going back to bed.

  1. Get a Flu shot?

Old saying: "When sick, go to be with Old Grandad". The whiskey.

    1. Hi Mark. I got a flu shot and it worked. Too bad there isn't a cold shot. I'm visiting Old Grandad today.

I can sympathize with how you feel, because I just got over a sinus infection a couple of weeks ago. True that is not a common cold but I felt horrible the whole time I had it. At least look at the cold this way, you got to watch some of the best westerns ever made. There will never be another John Wayne. Here’s hoping you get to feeling better and back on the water soon.

  3. Do you have your fleece on? By the picture...it looks like it! Whatever is in Mom's soup or the Whiskey you are drinking, is making you grow your hair back and giving you the fountain of youth! Maybe you are on to something! I'll only take the latter... : )

    1. Emily, you picked a great time to find your sense of humor! I've eaten all the homemade chicken soup in the house and I'm now working on the whiskey.

  4. In Poland we use three methods to combat the disease. In no particular order:
First Pepper is poured into a glass, pour vodka and ... cheers!
Second Aspirin, aspirin, aspirin ... and under the blanket!
Third Milk, honey, and egg yolk of egg, and cook until light. Hot drink as much as possible.

I wish you a rapid return.........
