Up in smoke in Colorado

I live in Colorado, so it's not much of a stretch to imagine these two guys fishing next to me on Boulder Creek. Heeey Man...how's the fishin'?  Ya want a hit?

You have now entered...

As I'm sure the whole world knows, Colorado is one of two states to legalize marijuana consumption. I therefore can't help but wonder how this can possibly affect life as we used to know it here.

No doubt there have probably always been stoned fishermen but since it's out in the open now, I expect we will see many undisguised acts of stupidity. Like the guy I saw stand up in a canoe a few years ago.

Is there a difference between drunks on the water and stoners on the water. Probably not, but legalizing previously illegal behavior seems to bring out the worst in people who already have BDD or Brain Deficit Disorder. One thing for sure, being stoned or drunk doesn't do much for common sense, so it ought to be a pretty interesting year on the water.

  1. I guess my take on that is:
    *Stupid is what stupid does
*You can't teach Stupid. You sit back and enjoy the moment, if your still living
*The Aroma Hatch like to fish for stupid fish. That leaves big brown trout out of the picture!
*If the Aroma Hatch visits my ponds, the better my odds of catching some nice fish instead of all the stupid ones!

    1. I can't believe anybody in their right minds would think that this is going to end well. Beyond stupid Mel.

  2. You're right, it's always been there. Now it's in your face. We'll expect pictures of those stupid people and remember, you can't fix stupid.

  3. There will be many stupid shows out there Howard.
First off there are many people out there that are already in a daze and they are lucky to be able to get dressed by themselves in the morning.Second, the only reason our state did this was for SALES TAX REVENUE.It doesn't matter if it is legal or not they will still do it somehow.I even know some people that there whole lives revolve around where there next buzz is coming from.I don't partake but if you live in Colorado and have Colorado plates on your vehicle and travel out of state,be prepared to be pulled over by local law and possibly go through a search of everything. It has already happened to a friend of mine in Wyoming
    Sagetrout out

    1. Having fished around Boulder County for quite a few years now, I've seen it all. We'll see if the stoned up the ante. I never thought about being stopped out of state just because of the Colorado plates. Something else to worry about eh?

    2. Howard, just to let you and others know, I know of a Colorado man who was traveling through Idaho. He was pulled over and then detained while his car was thoroughly searched. They found nothing, but, the whole process took several hours of his travel time. He said he was told he was pulled over because he had "Colorado" plates!

    3. That doesn't sound like probable cause to me Mel. I don't doubt it happened but I see a lawsuit in that departments future.

    4. I agree with you, Howard. A rider with the gentleman took a video that I have seen personally. The Patrolman, in this case, was very out of line in my opinion. I am not privileged enough to know more than that, but, I can assume where there is smoke there is fire.............

    5. Well Mel, I guess this is going to be one of the unintended consequences of the stupidity of our legislators. God Bless them.

  4. I had some guys ask me, in all seriousness, if I had any while hiking up above Brainard late in the fall (after snow had fallen). They were heading up to camp and based on the weather would probably need something to forget how miserable they were going to be.

    1. Ha! I believe it David. Some of my weirdest experiences fishing took place within sight of Brainard. That's where l learned that you could tip a belly boat upside down while you're sitting in it.

    2. Wow, I would never have guessed that was possible. That sounds slightly dangerous...

    3. Luckily, it wasn't me. The guy I was fishing with leaned over to untangle my line and flipped over. I still don't know exactly how he did it!

  6. Have fun with that. Just remember that smell could be a skunk or some guy getting stoned. Either way, tread lightly
